Philip

Philip is a Typhoon Yolanda (Typhoon Haiyan) survivor, yet that didn't hinder him from graduating as class Valedictorian of Burauen Comprehensive National High School, Barangay San Diego, Leyte. When he got admitted in  U.P. Tacloban, his family had no idea where to get the money to fund his college education.

Philip is a menopausal baby, an only child to his parents who are both too old to do the available strenuous jobs at Yolanda ravaged Leyte to support their son’s college education but thanks to teacher Lucelle, Philip's story reached us.

Philip was referred by Teacher Lucelle Rapada of Burauen Comprehensive National High School, a Yolanda survivor herself. Thanks to donors, Philip was able to fulfill the required pre-enrolment medical/physical exams and is now one of the scholars of Project Malasakit!

Philip endures more than an hour's commute from Burauen to Leyte's capital everyday yet he finished the first and second semester of his freshman year with THREE UNOs and with the lowest grade of 1.75.  While enrolling last January 2015, he gave us the good news that the University of the Philippines granted him a Full Discount plus stipend (FDS) scholarship status which has greatly alleviated the burden of his parents in providing for the family. Regardless, Philip's father continues to take every opportunity to get jobs as a welder in rehabilitating their province.
